About Punjab Police:

The Police Order of 2002 established the Punjab Police, which is governed under the Police Rules of 1934. The Legal Affairs Division (Legal Branch), Finance and Welfare, Operations, Training, and Research and Development are some of the branches of the Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore. Through their Additional Inspectors General of Police, the branches submit reports to the Inspector General of Police. The Regional Police Officers do not belong to the Punjab CPO; instead, they answer to the Inspector General of Police.
The British government replaced the zamindars, who were responsible for police duties, with magistrates who had dargahs and other subordinate personnel. By Madras Regulation XI of 1816, the dargah system in Madras was abolished, and the tehsildars were appointed to perform both police and tax tasks.
Bombay Regulation XII of 1827 established a comparable system in that city. Due to the lack of a subordinate revenue organization in Bengal, the system of dargahs was not abolished; however, in 1811, some of their cognizance powers were removed, which had the effect of limiting their authority.
