On August 15, 1965, Pakistan accepted the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961.
In response to the UN Convention on Narcotics Control, the Pakistan Narcotics Control Board (PNCB) was founded in 1973 with five Regional Directorates and the duty to combat drugs in the nation. With a total of 883 employees across all ranks, the Board operated as a subsidiary department of the Ministry of Interior until 1989. The Narcotics Control Division (NCD) was created in 1989, and the Board was made into an affiliated division.
